Terms and Conditions

    • The event is open to all students studying a relevant course in a recognised third level institution;
    • Students will be required to register their details on line before the event and show their Eventbrite ticket to gain admission.
    • Openet reserves the right to refuse admission and/or participation in the event, without explanation;
    • This is a coding competition. Participants will be expected to write working code on the day;
    • The solution must be submitted in Java only;
    • The challenge will be on a Robocode.
    • Participants should bring along a laptop, fully charged, but with charger as well – we will have a limited number of power points and blocks though. Participants may use whatever development environment they like on the day – there will be no additional points for specific IDEs or command line approaches. The objective is to submit an executable (or equivalent), plus the source code and related files, regardless of IDE, etc.
    • Only the first 100 registrations on the day will be entered;
    • Teams can be Minimum 2 to Max 4 people, but with one submission per team for RoboCode Game is permitted; i.e. The first submission per team is counted for each round of the competition
    • Any code submitted that is not developed during the event needs to be clearly commented and sourced to origin. This includes code developed by the participant prior to the competition. In the event that the evaluators or invigilators suspect that code has been submitted that has not been written within the competition, and has not been commented in this way, the relevant participant may be excluded from the competition;
    • Network (internet, intranet, etc.) access will not be allowed during the competition. Accessing any material or assistance over the network may lead to exclusion from the competition;
    • Participants may access reasonable language references (javadocs, reference books, etc.) during the competition. In the case of electronic references, such language references should be installed on the participant’s own computer prior to the competition. Openet will supply some relevant reference material on the day that you may use. Any participant accessing references that violate the spirit of a “reasonable” language reference will be asked to refrain from accessing such material, with exclusion from the competition resulting from any continued use after that;
    • We will have Openet Crew present to oversee what participants are doing, and to observe how they are working through the problem. The participants may be asked some questions along the way, but nothing that will compromise the nature of their solution to others, and not to such an extent that it will overly distract them;
    • The problem we will present will not be domain specific to Openet;
    • The target is to submit complete, working code that will be taken and verified by Openet staff. Of course, not everyone may get to that stage, so submit what you have;
    • In the event that Openet Crew deem that a student is clearly not making an effort, or is clearly unable to create and submit working relevant code, the student may be excluded from the competition and asked to leave;
    • Openet Crew will score the submissions on a range of scales – time taken or working code may not be the only factors in choosing the winner. The algorithm, the solution elegance, and the approach may be just as important, for example;
    • Please be aware that we will be taking photographs and video on the day, which we may use on our Social Media pages (see our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages) and also on our Graduate website. Attendance at the event implies that you give permission for such imagery to be distributed accordingly.  Please let us know if you would prefer not to have your image used.
    • Announcement of winners and will take place after the event and prizes will be awarded; Absence at the Prize giving will leave to forfeiture of prize.
    • Openet’s decision in all matters, including the winners of any prizes, is final and binding, and participation in the competition is taken as agreement to abide by such decisions.
